Materni-tea

A few days ago, the Birth and Women's Center, here in Dallas, hosted an event for new moms and babies, born between April and June. The event is called a Materni-tea. Cute, huh? We gather with our babies and share birth stories, then Cheri, one of the midwives helps to arrange all the babies, diapers only, on a white sheet on the front lawn. It's really too cute.

Mackey, the oldest baby at 16 weeks, did pretty well at the tea. Dressed in a cute pink smocked dress, she was alert, smiling, flirting with the new faces. Total star. Of course, she then needed to announce to the entire room that she was missing her nap. Yup...fuss fuss fuss. I eventually had to leave the room to soothe her, which meant nursing (or, as we say, slursing, so that she could make up for some of her lost nap). That meant that she was nice, tired, and semi-milk-drunk for the baby circle photos (taken outdoors, in August, in Texas, so in the heat), which resulted in her looking oh-so-tranquil for most of the pictures (except for a moment when she traded fuss moments with the baby next to her, who kept pushing her fist in Mackey's face). She got pretty drowsy and even started to assume the fall asleep position (arms up). She was too tired to turn her head in any direction but one! It was really fun to watch the different temperaments of the babies. We also captured some photos of the babies of parents from our Bradley class. In the first trio, Mackey is with Honora and Lennox, and in the second she's with Honora and Lucy. Very cute.

Needless to say, Mackey fell asleep in the car on the way home and had a nice long nap later that afternoon.

  1. oh my goodness this is too hilarious! it's kind of like a diaper fashion show. i wish our birthing center would do this. it must have felt very kitten herding-ish. isn't baby hair too funny? mackey's hair is hilarious, with that little fraggle mop top. chloe's is opposite - none on top and long in back, very baby mullet style.
