Mackey and Cashel: Road TRIP!!!

We braved the two-kid car trip down to Austin Sunday before Memorial Day, and we lived to tell the tale! As I told my friend Cari, whom we went to visit, traveling with two kids is a totally different rodeo. The extra stops for feedings, diaper changes, and crisis management added some time (about an hour), but we managed. And we even got the kids to sleep at the same time, for some of the time at least. And Mackey proved that she's a sounder sleeper than we suspected, since she slept through Cashel's screaming. That boy does NOT like riding in the car.

We loved having an opportunity to bid farewell (for now) to my favorite city, and some of my closest and oldest friends there. We stayed with Cari and Eric, who have an almost-two-year-old daughter Chloe. It was such a treat for Mackey to have a girl her age to play with 1:1. Since I don't see Mackey at school, it was the first time I got to see her play with another girl. They held hands within about five minutes and did lots and lots of squealing, running, and learning the finer points of sharing their dear dollies and animals.

On Monday, Cari and Eric hosted a cookout and two other kiddoes joined. I hope to see some of the video footage of the three girls (all born within three months of each other) playing in the sprinkler. Little Noah probably wished that Cashel was old enough to represent the boy faction of the party. Cashel did well during the majority of the party, either snuggling in the Baby Bjorn or sitting in a lap, doing his trademark cat-napping.
